Algeria Highlights Youth Experience at Coastal Environment Conference in Hurghada
Algeria took part in the activities of the 14th Annual Coastal Environment Conference, held in Hurghada, Egypt, from September 22 to 25, 2026, bringing together around 150 young men and women from 15 Arab and African countries to discuss key issues related to coastal environmental protection, climate change and the role of young people in advancing sustainable development efforts.
The Algerian participation was represented by Mohamed Taher Djeblaoui, a member of the Algerian Youth Network for Water Security and Sustainable Development, who represented Algeria throughout the conference and took part in its scientific sessions, workshops and discussions.
The event was held under the theme “Blue Carbon… A Lifeboat from Climate Change,” reflecting growing regional attention to coastal environmental issues, climate-related challenges and the importance of strengthening youth engagement in initiatives aimed at protecting ecosystems and promoting sustainable environmental action.
Hurghada Brings Together Youth from 15 Arab and African Countries
The conference was organized by the Arab Union for Youth and Environment, with participation from approximately 150 young people representing 15 Arab and African countries.
The event provided a regional platform for dialogue and the exchange of ideas and experiences on environmental issues that have gained increasing importance at both regional and international levels.
The conference agenda addressed a range of topics related to coastal environments, climate change and the role of youth in confronting environmental challenges. Discussions also focused on ways to strengthen youth-led initiatives and support efforts to protect ecosystems and preserve natural resources.
The diversity of participating countries created an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss youth-led environmental and development initiatives, particularly amid the growing need to expand the contribution of young people to programs aimed at achieving sustainability and strengthening climate resilience.
Algerian Youth Experience in Addressing Climate Change
As part of the conference’s scientific sessions, Mohamed Taher Djeblaoui delivered a presentation entitled “The Algerian Youth Experience as a Model in Addressing Climate Change.”
The presentation reviewed the establishment and development of the Algerian Youth Network for Water Security and Sustainable Development, presenting it as an Algerian youth experience focused on environmental issues, water security and sustainable development.
The presentation examined the network’s development from its initial focus on environmental and water-security concerns to the establishment of an organized youth framework aimed at bringing together young talents and expertise and directing their efforts toward addressing environmental and climate-related challenges.
It also highlighted the importance of youth initiatives in responding to environmental issues by moving beyond the stage of monitoring and identifying challenges on the ground toward proposing initiatives and developing solutions.
This approach underlined the importance of involving young people in shaping responses to environmental challenges and in developing initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development.
From Identifying Challenges to Building Solutions
The Algerian presentation also emphasized the importance of transforming environmental awareness into practical initiatives and highlighted the role young people can play at different stages of environmental action.
This includes monitoring environmental challenges in the field, assessing their impact, identifying priorities and contributing to the development of initiatives and solutions.
In this context, the presentation highlighted the importance of networking as a mechanism for bringing together youth expertise and capabilities and coordinating efforts among them.
It also emphasized the value of cooperation between young people, researchers and stakeholders working in the environmental field, particularly in terms of exchanging knowledge, sharing expertise and developing approaches capable of responding to complex environmental and climate-related challenges.
The Algerian participation therefore provided an opportunity to present a youth-led experience focused on water security, environmental protection and climate change, while highlighting efforts to organize youth capabilities and channel them toward issues linked to environmental sustainability.

Exchange of Expertise on Water Security and Environmental Protection
The participation of the Algerian Youth Network for Water Security and Sustainable Development extended beyond the scientific presentation.
Mohamed Taher Djeblaoui also participated in a number of workshops and discussion sessions held during the conference, contributing to the exchange of experiences with participants from different countries.
The discussions addressed issues related to water security, climate change and environmental protection, while providing participants with an opportunity to present their respective experiences and explore potential areas of cooperation.
These meetings created a space for dialogue among young participants and allowed them to learn more about environmental initiatives and experiences being developed in different countries.
They also provided an opportunity to discuss prospects for cooperation and knowledge exchange in areas where joint action and coordinated initiatives can contribute to addressing shared environmental and development challenges.
Strengthening Algerian Youth Presence in Regional Forums
The Algerian participation in the 14th Annual Coastal Environment Conference comes within the broader context of strengthening the presence of Algerian youth in regional and international forums addressing environmental and sustainable development issues.
Participation in such events provides Algerian youth with an opportunity to present national experiences and initiatives to representatives from different countries while contributing to discussions on common environmental challenges.
It also creates opportunities to expand communication and cooperation networks and exchange expertise, particularly on issues requiring coordinated efforts and partnerships, including water security, climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development.
Through the presentation of the experience of the Algerian Youth Network for Water Security and Sustainable Development, the conference offered an opportunity to introduce the network’s youth-led experience and highlight efforts aimed at organizing youth capabilities and directing them toward environmental and climate-related priorities.
Algerian Representative Receives Special Recognition
At the conclusion of the conference, the Algerian participation received special recognition, with the honor presented to Mohamed Taher Djeblaoui, Algeria’s representative at the event, in recognition of his participation and contribution to the conference’s activities.
The recognition came after four days of scientific sessions, workshops, discussions and meetings that brought together young people from Arab and African countries to address coastal environmental issues, climate change and the role of youth in supporting sustainable environmental action.
The conference thus concluded another regional platform for youth dialogue on environmental issues at a time when initiatives and experiences aimed at raising environmental awareness and supporting ecosystem protection are becoming increasingly important.
The Algerian participation also highlighted the significance of the country’s youth presence in specialized environmental and development forums through the presentation of national experiences, contribution to technical discussions and exchange of expertise.
Such participation provides a platform for Algerian youth to engage in regional and international discussions on environmental challenges while supporting broader efforts to strengthen youth involvement in environmental action and sustainable development.
Overall, Algeria’s presence in the Hurghada conference provided an opportunity to showcase the experience of its young environmental advocates, exchange perspectives with participants from across the Arab and African regions, and contribute to discussions on water security, climate change, coastal ecosystems and sustainable development.
